Do you suffer from anxiety, stress or lack of sleep?
Are you constantly in pain, have chronic inflammation or have mystery symptoms that you can't find an explanation or a cure for?
Are you constantly surrounded by devices, electronics, and appliances?
Is your phone permanently attached to you?
Do you work on the computer all day?
Do you wear shoes?
Slowly over time we have become so disconnected with nature and the earth that we haven't realized just how disconnected we are and how much that disconnect can be hurting us.
Human beings were made to be in contact with the earth. We were made to be in contact with the ground.
We weren't designed to be wearing shoes and walking around in concrete jungles surrounded by Wi-Fi signals and EMF radiation all day.
"The Earth has a giant electromagnetic field; humans also have a bioelectromagnetic field," says Shamini Jain, a psychologist and founding director of the Consciousness and Healing Initiative, a collaborative of scientists, health care providers and others dedicated to advancing the science and understanding of consciousness and healing.
Science has stated that everything is energy and we as humans beings are no exception to that statement. What we don't need science to tell us is that we can FEEL the energy from other people, from certain places and things and that energy can affect us in either positive or negative ways.
We are given blankets to block the energy from x-ray machines as we know it can be damaging to our health, so why do we allow ourselves to be exposed to SO MANY other kinds of negative energy sources and not expect the same results?
It's because the results are sometimes slow and subtle, so subtle that until it's too late and we are experiencing the damage and the negative affects of it we don't even notice or even think about it.
More often than not we don't even realize where the damage has come from.
We are also being sold ways to make our lives easier and more productive. The newest cell phones, the faster computers, the wireless air pods. The benefits of these things in our daily life are something we can see more easily than the negative impacts.
So why not use them? Why not get more things to make life easier? We end up surrounding ourselves with them 24hrs a day.
The fact is that we aren't thinking about the overall impact these things have on us.
It's very much like sitting in the sun! The sun is a GREAT source of energy.
Who doesn't love the feeling of the warmth on their skin?
If you were born with certain skin tones you might even get a nice tan! And who couldn't use a little more vitamin D?
All good things right?
Here's the problem though. While there are the positives we think of right away that attract us to the experience. There's a negative side that often can get overlooked.
If you sit in the sun too long, especially on a hot day with a high UV index you know what's going to happen - you are very likely going to get a nasty sunburn.
Your skin will be damaged so that vitamin D, well that positive just got thrown out by a much stronger negative.
If you sit in the sun for too long and too often you can even develop skin cancer.
Fortunately we now know and realize these things.
We use sunscreens with high SPF's and that are water proof if we plan on being in the water or playing sports in the sun.
Certain people with more sensitive skin avoid the peak times of the day or find a shady place to hang out while the UV is at its strongest levels.
Why don't we do apply this same principal to other sources of energy in our lives?
If we know these devices can cause damage with repeated and prolonged exposure why aren't we taking steps to protect ourselves more? Why aren't we allowing ourselves those breaks where we sit in the shade?
If you sit in the sun on certain days you can be tricked into thinking it's not doing much and then still end up with a pretty bright red, sore sunburn.
I think almost everyone has had one of those days where that happens and they say "It didn't even feel that hot!", or " I didn't even notice!" and then it's too late.
The days you know it's hot you don't sit in the sun for hours and not give yourself a break.
You find the shade, go inside, cover up with hats, glasses and sunscreens and try to help your body to prevent illness and damage that you know could be a result.
Grounding is the same as giving your body that break.
It's allowing it time to rest and heal and not have to be subjected to constant exposure to an energy that eventually will cause damage.
While grounding (or earthing as it's also referred to as these terms are sometimes used interchangeably) is best done barefoot while you stand or walk connected to the earth (for atleast 20-30minutes or more), or even by swimming, sometimes our lives don't always allow for us to experience that as much as we would like.
We are stuck at the office or in front of the computer all day. We have responsibilities and obligations that keep us busy and distracted.
Grounding mats/kits can be a simple and effective solution for anyone who struggles to find the time to connect with nature.
Grounding mats can be used when you are one the computer, meditating or exercising, sleeping etc.
When used properly (always check instructions and outlets are properly connected) grounding mats/kits can help us give our bodies that break from being constantly exposed to energy that can be affecting us negatively.
It can give us the time to rest.
My first experience with a grounding mat I can say shocked me. While everyone's experiences will be different mine was clear to me right away that it was working. I sat at my computer after testing my outlets and plugging in my grounding mat and placing my feet on it. Within minutes I felt like I had been given a very strong sedative. I believe whole heartedly my body was EXHAUSTED and finally able to shut down and take a break from the battle it had been experiencing.
As someone who struggled with the issues autoimmune disease can present you with I had been trying to figure out how to get inflammation under control, to reduce anxiety and to just feel better on so many levels.
As I used to mat more and more I noticed the effects were not as noticeable because I had become used to feeling them but the results were undeniable. Things were improving for me.
I started placing the mat on the bottom of my bed between my sheets and putting my feet on it at night.
I figured this would be a good way for my body to get the ultimate break to rest, and restore itself while I slept as it was designed to do.
Now when I go a few nights without it I notice a difference and let me tell you I cannot wait to get back to my mat.
I have since added in Celiant sheets (which I will do another post on soon) to add to my healing journey/tools and I can't tell you just how much I notice the difference with those as well.
I don't have a tv or computer in the room where I sleep and if I have to have a cell phone in there you can bet it's on airplane mode.
Changes I have made slowly over time to help myself even more.
What about you?
Are you grounded enough?
Are you giving your body that break you might not even be aware that it so desperately needs?
Are you suffering and struggling to find relief?
Perhaps a little grounding is just what you need?
The mat/kits linked here are identical to the one I currently use.
(They are on amazon an it is an affiliate link which means simply if you buy from that seller Amazon will give me a few cents for sharing a product I love).
Every person reacts differently to things just like the sun and so every person will react differently to the mats. I recommend using it for a few months before deciding if it's helping you or not as again, some of the signs are like the illnesses and ailments we have - we notice them over time and not always right away or at once.
You could end up like me nearly passing out on your computer desk for a much needed rest, or you might find slowly over time, you just start feeling better!
Ground yourself - you just might need it more than you realize!
